This is my bruddah, Joey Solis. He completed his tour of duty and then chose to make his way in the civilian world. He's a major part of how Dachawaiian came to be. We're in our Aid Station one day, and Joey looks to me and says, " hey SGT Carp, you're not Chinese, and you're not Hawaiian, you're CHAWAIIAN" ! From that day forward, I would be known as Dachawaiian.

I'm a country boy and I need wide open spaces. I LOVE HAWAII ! It's my home, where I grew up. I've never been a follower. I like to make my own way. I'm far from perfect. I make mistakes and then try my best to learn from them. Friends and family are my life. My guard goes down only for them. I've been around the world twice protecting those little freedoms that most people take for granted. Those who have walked in my shoes understand. I'm a hopeless romantic in every sense of the word. I have a very gentle heart of which only a certain few know of.      People who I'd like to meet are Jesus Christ, Plato, Leonardo DaVinci, Stryper, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Randy Travis, George Strait, Tommy Shane Steiner, Christian rockers Guardian, The Magnum PI gang, Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (Mr Miyagi), Ralph Macchio (Daniel-san), Jane Seymour, Christopher Reeve, Abraham Lincoln, (the list is endless)...      I love UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII WARRIOR FOOTBALL, hiking, running, camping, fishing, scuba diving, listening to music, watching sporting events live, UFO's, the SETI Project (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence). I enjoy helping people which is what led me to becoming a combat medic/EMT. I'm fascinated with archaeology, especially biblical archaeology.      I'm into so many different styles of music, it really depends upon my mood. I'm really into the oboe, piano, and violin. I'd like to learn to play the violin. I'm a rocker, I love the 70's and I love my 80's hair bands! Some of my favorites are Stryper, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Guardian, Little River Band, Bobby Caldwell, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Will Smith, Hawaiian artists, Cecilio and Kapono, The Beamer Brothers, Hawaiian Style Band, Olomana,(too many to mention)!      My favorite movies are Somewhere in Time, The Notebook, The Rocky movies, The Green Mile, The Superman movies, Behind Enemy Lines, the Karate Kid movies, A Walk to Remember, Patch Adams, the Star Trek movies, Spiderman, The Hulk, and many more!      My favorite TV shows are House, ER, The Closer, Cold Case, The History Channel, Cartoon Network, The Discovery Channel, Sci Fi Channel, all of the Star Trek series, Happy Days, Magnum PI, MASH, CSI, The Twilight Zone, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Looney Tunes, and more I just can't think of right now.....!      My heroes are my grandfather, Christopher Reeve, SGT Christopher Rudzinski, the soldiers I went to war with, my driver and medic SPC Joey Magoncia,  SGT Geoff Flores......

I thought,  eh, if the tanks can write their names on their main gun barrel, I can name my vehicle too !

The FAS, or forward aid station, that you see beyond my track, is the kind of vehicle that Solis was on. Regretably, I don't have a picture, but he named his 577 "the ghetto fabulous desert caddy" !

I have no idea what came over me to put THIS particular picture here, but as you can see, I had a box of glass bottles stored in my track. Glass bottles in the desert you say????????? I collect vintage soda bottles. I thought these Iraqi bottles would be cool to add to my collection. The ones I had stored here were soda bottles, milk bottles, etc. that I had found throughout this deployment. I had , I don't know, something like 30 bottles of various sizes in here. When we were finally back home, after one year, only ONE bottle out of all I had was broken. Pretty good, eh?
