This is my bro, Army Specialist Joseph Dwyer, 91W10, Combat Medic. As a medic attached to 3-7 CAV, he was part of the first wave into Iraq in March of 2003. In the photo above, he's carrying a young Iraqi boy out of harms way. 3-7 CAV was pressing forward near the banks of the Euphrates river when the boy and his family were caught in the crossfire of the CAV fighting forces loyal to Saddam Hussein. The child's injury was caused by shrapnel that tore into his left leg and lodged just under his knee. Later when checking on the young Iraqi's condition, the boy (Ali) was recovering well from his wounds and was doing as good as can be under the circumstances. |
